Layer Control

The Layers panel is in the right sidebar (East panel), under the Workspaces & Layers tab. It displays all layers in your current workspace as a hierarchical tree.

Layer Tree Structure

Layers are organised into two top-level groups:

  • Overlays — thematic vector and raster layers (points, lines, polygons, images)
  • Base Layers — background map tiles (only one base layer is visible at a time)

Each group can contain nested sub-groups. Click the expand/collapse arrows to navigate the tree.

Active Layer

The active layer is the layer that the map interacts with — feature selection, data table, editing, and other tools all operate on the active layer.

  • Use the Active Layer dropdown at the top of the layers panel to select one
  • The active layer is highlighted in the tree
  • Clicking a feature on the map performs a lookup against the active layer first

TIP

If no active layer is set, clicking on the map will still find features from all visible layers, but you won't be able to edit records or use layer-specific tools.

Visibility

  • Click the checkbox next to a layer to toggle its visibility on the map
  • Base layers use radio buttons — only one can be visible at a time

Labels

Some layers have configurable labels that display text on the map (e.g. street names, parcel numbers).

  • Click the label toggle () next to a layer to show or hide its labels

Opacity

  • Use the opacity slider that appears when you expand a layer node to adjust transparency
  • Drag left for more transparent, right for more opaque

Reordering Layers

You can drag and drop layers to change their drawing order:

  1. Click and hold a layer in the tree
  2. Drag it to the desired position
  3. Release to drop

WARNING

Layers can only be reordered within the same group. You cannot drag an overlay into the base layers group or vice versa.

Tips

  • Expand a layer to see its opacity slider and any child (sub) layers
  • Layers load based on zoom level — some layers only appear when you zoom in far enough
  • The layer tree reflects the current workspace. Add or remove layers, then save your workspace to keep changes
