Editing Records & Spatial Data

OneMap supports both attribute editing (changing field values) and spatial editing (modifying geometry on the map). This page covers the spatial editing tools available when working with vector layers.

Requirements

To edit data, you need:

  1. An active layer that is a vector layer
  2. An edit template selected in the Data Table toolbar
  3. Edit permissions granted by your administrator

Attribute Editing

For editing field values (text, numbers, dates, etc.), see:

Spatial Editing

When the active layer supports spatial editing, a toolbar appears on the left side of the map with geometry editing tools.

Entering Edit Mode

Click the Enter Edit Mode button () in the spatial editing toolbar to activate geometry editing.

Exiting Edit Mode

Click the Cancel button () to exit edit mode and discard unsaved geometry changes.

Save

Click Save () to persist your geometry changes to the server.

Undo

Click Undo () to revert your last geometry modification (before saving).

Geometry Tools

Add Point

Add Point — Click on the map to place a new point feature. A dialog opens to enter the feature's attributes.

Add Line

Add Line — Click points on the map to draw a line feature. Double-click to complete the line. A dialog opens to enter attributes.

Add Polygon

Add Polygon — Click points to draw a polygon boundary. Double-click to close the shape. A dialog opens to enter attributes.

TIP

When adding new geometry, you can choose between single and multiple geometry mode. Multiple mode lets you add several features in sequence before saving.

Modify

Modify — Select a feature and drag its vertices to reshape the geometry. New vertices can be added by dragging the midpoint handles between existing vertices.

Move

Move — Select a feature and drag it to a new location. The entire geometry moves together.

Delete

Delete — Click on a feature to delete its geometry. You will be asked to confirm before the deletion is applied.

Split

Split — Draw a line across a polygon or line feature to split it into two separate features.

Snap

Snap — Toggle snapping on or off. When enabled, your cursor snaps to nearby vertices and edges of existing features, making it easier to create precise, connected geometries.

Workflow Example

A typical spatial editing workflow:

  1. Set the target layer as active
  2. Select an edit template in the Data Table
  3. Click Enter Edit Mode in the spatial toolbar
  4. Choose a tool (Add, Modify, Move, etc.)
  5. Make your changes on the map
  6. Click Save to persist changes
  7. Click Cancel or switch tools when done
